Setting Mid-Year Goals to Stay on Track

As the year reaches its halfway mark, it’s the perfect moment to pause, reflect, and realign. Whether you're planning your next vacation or hunting for the best productivity notebook to set powerful intentions, mid-year goals give us a second chance to recommit to what matters. And for those of us juggling high-octane lives—like raising a family, building businesses, and still aiming for balance—it becomes all the more vital.

Life at Full Speed: A Personal Perspective

I love my life even though life, right now, feels like spinning ten plates at once. Our daughter is turning one—a milestone that fills my heart—and my wife and I are both steering demanding careers. Add on our passion projects, like driving Hermopolis Magna’s mission forward, consulting to help other businesses scale, diving into new investment strategies, and oh yeah, trying to stay consistent with our fitness goals and monthly date night.

We’re always recalibrating. And that’s the first lesson of staying on track with mid-year goals: life doesn’t pause for perfect timing.

Strategy #1: Reaffirm Your Non-Negotiables

Your goals are only as strong as your why. For us, certain priorities are unshakable: nurturing our marriage, staying healthy, and ensuring our daughter thrives. When you're in a season of go go go, it's tempting to let things slide. But non-negotiables need to be blocked off in your calendar and honored like sacred appointments.

Take 10 minutes today to jot down the top three priorities that must remain consistent this year. Use a goal-setting notebook—one with built-in prompts or calendar spreads—so you can track them with clarity.

Strategy #2: Use Notebooks to Visualize Progress

Speaking of notebooks, there’s just something about putting pen to paper. Unlike a to-do app you’ll swipe away, a dedicated travel-inspired journal or minimalist planner can serve as both your compass and your mirror. We like using different notebooks: one for long-term strategies (like our roadmap for Hermopolis Magna), one for investments and finances, and another just for personal reflections, family plans, and fitness goals.

Strategy #3: Schedule Regular Goal Check-ins

Every Sunday evening, I sit down with a cup of tea, my wife beside me (when we can carve out the time), and we glance at what’s ahead. Are we moving the needle on our business consulting plans? Are we carving space for family, for rest, for reading that new book? If not, it’s time to pivot—without shame.

Vacations are sacred too. Planning travel gives us something to look forward to, and if you've ever jotted ideas in a leather-bound travel notebook, you’ll know how tangible those dreams can feel.

Strategy #4: Make Room for the Unexpected

You can’t plan for everything. A teething toddler, a sudden client emergency, or a surprise real estate opportunity might demand your full attention. That’s okay. Goals aren’t meant to control your life—they’re meant to guide it. Be flexible but focused.

A great notebook can double as a space for capturing those curveballs, helping you refocus when things go sideways. Think of it as your daily reset button.

Strategy #5: Celebrate Wins—Big and Small

Don’t wait until December to feel proud. Halfway through the year, take stock of what’s going right. Maybe you stayed consistent with your workouts. Maybe you found 30 minutes to read every night. Maybe you helped a client break through.

We often underestimate our own capacity—especially when we’re this busy. But every small win deserves a tick, a highlight, or even a celebratory vacation booking page bookmarked for future bliss.

Mid-year is your second wind. Whether you’re chasing financial freedom, building something from scratch, or simply trying to get in more family dinners, setting thoughtful, flexible goals with the right tools—like purpose-driven notebooks and planned moments of rest—will make all the difference.

And if you're feeling like you're barely hanging on some days? Same. But here’s the wild truth: in the beautiful chaos, we’re still building. Still dreaming. Still growing. And that’s the kind of momentum no algorithm can measure.
